Familiar living things - Exploring familiar living things


Technology used - SAMR model - Substitution
Substitution - "Technology acts as a direct tool substitute, with no functional change" (Department of Education, Training and Employment, 2012).

  • Teacher's use of technology include using Spiderscribe.net as a concept map for brainstorm activity to assess students' prior knowledge rather than writing on the whiteboard. This is uploaded on the Class Blog.
  • Students use cameras to take photos of living things and upload it on a word documents as well as notes, comparison to predictions and observations.


Lesson Experience Plan 2 - Lesson 3

Life stages of living things - Examining life stages of offspring who resemble the adults

Technology used - SAMR model - Augmentation
Augmentation - "Technology acts as a direct tool substitute, with functional improvement" (Department of Education, Training and Employment, 2012).

  • Teacher use scanner to scan photos of students and their parents and display the photos on the whiteboard to enable students to make comparisons between the babies and their parents.
  • Different Slideshow are shown on the whiteboard that enable students to be actively involved in identifications and matching of living things.
  • Students make notes on class blog and upload photos with support of teacher.

Linking needs with life stages - Investigating how life stages affect needs.


Technology used - SAMR model - Modification
Modification - "Technology allows for significant task redesign" (Department of Education, Training and Employment, 2012).

  • Teacher use online videos to gain students attention and use PowerPoint presentation to explain science concept.
  • Students research website for information and record their notes and information on the class blog.

Applying knowledge of living things - Assessment task


Technology used - SAMR model - Redefinition
Redefinition - "
Technology allows for the creation of new tasks, previously inconceivable" (Department of Education, Training and Employment, 2012).

  • Teacher explain and model creating assessment task on Glogster.
  • Students create assessment task on Glogster with the support of teacher and teacher aide.
  • Teacher upload Glogsters on class blog.
  • Students complete an online quiz to revise what they have been learning.
  • Students write short reflection on class blog and answer the question How do living things grow?
